Cancer Full Moon

“Reject those who hold the illusion of power, find your inner sanctum”

January’s Full Moon in Cancer is nearly conjunct retrograde Mars and occurs right after the Sun makes a powerful trine to Uranus. With both the Sun and Moon in their home decans and the Moon in its domicile in Cancer, there’s a real purity to the quality of this liberating and illuminating lunation. It calls on us to make small steps forward, release what we’re complete with and embrace our authenticity.

The Tarot for this Full Moon include The Chariot (Cancer), The Devil (Capricorn), The High Priestess (the Moon rules Cancer and its 3rd decan), The World (Saturn rules Capricorn) and The Sun (Sun rules Cap’s 3rd decan). The decans hold the energies of all 4 elements with the energetic (if not erratic) Knights of Swords/Wands and the 4 of Pentacles/Cups. These cards ask us to intuitively and practically focus on our own well being and what we know to be true, especially if the pace of life seems uncomfortably hasty or as if we’re tethered to a reality that feels false.

The Moon sits at the cusp of Cancer 24 & 25 – two degrees at the end of the Centering Sabian expression. Multiple personalities may be overwhelming us at this time. Be discerning and trust your intuition if people are being pushy or displaying attitudes of superiority. The Sun sits on the Capricorn 24/25 cusp in symbols about spiritual retreats, maintaining faith, bargaining, bartering, and the archetypal ‘used car salesman’.

The Moon sits in Hexagram 62 (Small Exceeding), and the Sun is in Hex 61 (Inner Truth), Lines 4 which speak of taking small steps without delay while avoiding the desire to push for drastic change amidst chaos. Hex62.4 refers to an event where human intervention superseded Divine will – an event that was meant to happen which didn’t come to pass. It portends a volatile future where the fate of those who have seized power by force will end in calamity. It advises us to avoid the storm and instead take small, intentional steps to take care of ourselves and others.
