Yearly Transits – 2024 vs 2025 by Planet

This page holds my planet-by-planet guides to the major transits of 2024 vs 2025.

This fast-moving personal planet is always relatively close to the Sun, traveling the entire zodiac in a year. This transit summary highlights the key dates and Sabian Symbols activated by the messenger planet in the year we’ve just finished and the year we’re just beginning.

Mercury relates to communication, networks, ideas, how we think about, process and relay information. In Tarot, its correspondence card is the Magician.

Mercury retrogrades occur 3 times a year giving us plenty of opportunities to RE-everything – knowing what degrees (and Sabian Expressions) these retrogrades occur in can help us understand what parts of our charts are activated and what themes we may be working with during each ~2month long retrograde cycle. I’m also including the pre and post-shadow dates here which are just when a planet hits the degrees where stations occur on either end of the retrograde.

I’m particularly intrigued by Mercury’s first retrograde cycle in March/April 2025 as the Pisces/Aries point cusp is going to also be highly activated at that time with Venus, Neptune and Saturn all crossing back and forth across this initiatory degree of the zodiac. It seems fitting that the nodes of fate also cross over this Aries/Pisces axis at the start of the year.

Venus will be in her first retrograde cycle since Fall 2023, while Neptune will be moving into Aries for the first time since 1861. Saturn then moves into Aries for the first time since Feb 1999 in late May. With all these activations of the Aries Point (refers to 0° of Aries but also 0° of all 4 cardinal signs – also known as the “World Axis”), we can expect some powerful initiations and manifestations to come to being in 2025. 

Mars, the planet associated with aggression, ambition and drive has been going through some things with his higher octave Pluto, the great transformer. Thanks to his current retrograde cycle, the trio of oppositions between these two is a palpable energy signature as we transition from 2024 to 2025.

Mars begins 2025 nearly halfway through its current retrograde cycle, and makes a second potent opposition to his big brother Pluto on January 3rd, 2025. This marks a culmination point in the synodic cycle for these two which began in Aquarius 1 on Valentine’s Day 2024. His last opposition to Pluto was on 11/3/24 in the final/anaretic degrees of Capricorn/Cancer the week of the US election.

On January 6, 2025, Mars leaves Leo and re-enters his fall in Cancer where he spends January to mid-April 2025 reflecting and integrating lessons related to the Sabian Expressions of Uniting, Centering and Maturity.

After stationing direct on 2/23 in a degree related to growing up and accepting responsibility, he re-enters Leo on 4/17. On 4/25 Mars and Pluto make their final opposition in Aquarius/Leo 4 before Mars finally clears his retrograde shadow on 5/2.

Mars ends the year in a Capricorn 13, in a degree with similar themes to his retrograde station degree (Leo 7) and to Pluto’s degree for their final opposition (Aquarius 4 – A Hindu healer).
